Mill on 66 Restoration & Museum Plan

Press Update - Mill Grant Completion
Mill Grant & Funding Updates

Lincoln, Illinois is a heavily traveled Route 66 community midway between St. Louis and Chicago, but few of its Route 66 attractions remain open.
To partially remedy that situation, a group of volunteers have formed the 501(c)(3) Logan County Route 66 Heritage Foundation to help preserve county sites affiliated with the famous Mother Road.
Mill

The premiere project tackled by the group is saving the Mill restaurant, a derelict building that was once a hotspot on a portion of Route 66 that ran through Lincoln. The plan is to use the building as a tourist attraction and a Route 66 museum.

A great deal has been accomplished at The Mill including a new roof, new and replacement windows and restoration of the downstairs floor and foundation - but there is still more to do.

All donations are tax-deductible.

Here's what you get from your donation level:

$15 Individual Donation: Includes one year membership and free tour of The Mill (transportation not provided).

$25 Business/Organization Donation: Includes one year membership and free tour of The Mill (transportation not provided).

$50 Donation: Includes free collectible Bob Waldmire Mill print, one year membership and free tour of The Mill (transportation not provided).

We accept any donation amount and International Donations at all pricing levels.

The Impact

The Mill is considered a prime example of early American roadside architecture and is one of the few buildings in the area still standing from that era. Opening the Mill will add to the number of Route 66 visitors and increase both civic pride and economic development in this rural, central Illinois community.

In 2006, The Route 66 Heritage Foundation of Logan County was created. The foundation will attempt to use the funds raised through this campaign as matching money for any available grants. The goal for completing the renovation work and opening is April, 2017.
